My Love of All Things French

Today is Rhonda's My Love of All Things French day! If you click on the above invitation, it will take you to her blog with more information - and photos of some of her lovely collection of French objets d'art!

Since I haven't traveled anywhere since our last excursion to the City of Lights, I knew if I went to my luggage I would find some French paper goods - what most consider garbage, but I hate to throw out tickets, cards to my favorite places, etc. So I make a point of leaving all that stuff in my luggage until the next holiday!
Most of it is perfectly ordinary - the guest brochure for Versailles tourists, tickets to the Opera and admittance to the Louvre. I am glad that I kept a card from the hotel we stayed in the last time: The Hotel Neva . It was wonderful - beautiful room, super-friendly hosts, and only a five (or less) minute walk to the Arc d'Triomphe! The Champs d'Elysee is only a very few minutes walk from there. Although we always look for a new place to stay, I believe this will become our Parisienne home-away-from-home from now on - we were very comfortable there.

This is a photo of the Arc from the corner of our building ... please forgive the blurry cars; my photography isn't all that terrific, I know!
We don't actually buy that many souvenirs when we visit ... but the things below are some treasures we brought back. Rather than re-write a description about these things that I've already done, I'll just say I've written about them on a post here. Please click there to read about my Montmarte silhouettes and my Giverny flea markets treasures.

Thanks for the opportunity to share, Rhonda. I'm going to attempt to find more goodies today for yet another day of My Love of All Things French tomorrow!

I love that peacock piece! Gorgeous! I keep everything too! I put it in gift bags and then store it hoping to scrapbook it one day...HA! I am also overly addicted to buying guide books for everywhere I go. They are full of lovely pictures and when I peruse them, it is as if I am revisiting the places I loved. When I went to Pompeii, I bought every book they had in English, plus a dvd and cd rom. I am out of control!!!!!!!

You have the most beautiful treasures Tristan! I love the items from your suitcase. Those would be treasures in my eyes. I LOVE your picture of the Arch de Triumph. The blurry lights make it look very professional. When I visited, I had no clue there was an underground walkway to the Arch de Triumph and actually crossed the million lanes of traffic. I guess it made a memory though, eh? Did you have the silhouettes done in Paris? I noticed the Eiffel tower on them. How lovely! Thank you so much for participating and I hope that you will drop by again tomorrow. Chat soon! Rhonda...

Bonjour Tristan.....
Great ephemera and such lovely souvenirs. It is quiet apparent as to why you would fall in love with the two brooches.....they are exquisite.....but why you would hide them behind the framing paper on the back of the frame I know not. You should have them properly mounted and framed for display if not wear upon your lapel. This to me is like buying fine china and stashing it away instead of enjoying it. And yet I love your idea of the "creating a bit of an 'enchanted' mystery".
I love this French Event that Rhonda has set up, for it has given me a chance to visit other blogs such as yours. And being new to blogging and these many new blogs has been quite enjoyable. You have a wonderful blog and a wonderful way with words.
Have a most beautiful day.

I can only imagine what amazing memories you must have from your trip. I've always read that it's the flea markets that must be visited when in Paris.

We do have wonderful memories - we've been several times, and it's always as special as the first time.

ah, yes, the flea markets are wonderful! I only pick up tiny things, so I can get away without paying hefty duties on the them LOL - but whenever we are in France, we always hit the flea markets!

I don't know if you will ever read this comment since your post is days old now. Of course I adore that peacock piece. What a wonderful souvenir. You could carry that around in your pocket to enchant yourself throughout your day. Would you like some small peacock feathers? I will send you some if you'd like.

Oh, I just went back to read your original post regarding these treasures and now I know that you can't carry this in your pocket since it is hidden in the framing of your silhouette. Sweet surprise.
