While I was doing research for my post a few days ago about the incredible workmanship required to make ballet tutus, I came across so many images of gorgeous needlework that were not on ballet costumes.
But I thought they were amazing - and should be shared. I'm not going to write anything about them ... just post them and let you see them and be as awed and amazed at the skill, talent, vison - and time! - involved in the art of fancy needlework!
Some of the images are contemporary - some are vintage - all are exquisite. Enjoy!
Special thanks to Alterations, unlimited on Facebook, where many of these images were found.
Hope you've been inspired, now
... go make something beautiful!

Tristan... Thanks for a wonderful post today! I loved seeing the photos of so much deliciousness created in fabric, ribbon, beads and stitch...has me now rushing to get off the internet and into the studio to play with some of my favorite bits...Seldom comment, nearly always read...love your sense of design and always that humor! Kristin

TRISTAN! Good morning dear artist and fabulous person! How wonderful to catch your comment this morning! Thank you kindly for your words...I have to say that six years of blogging and taking a poetry class, writing more poetry and now freelance writing for a magazine have most definitely changed my blog style. I am thrilled that we have connected again, and that you are back in full force. Much love to you and wishes for a thrilling and WILD WEEKEND! Anita

Fascinating. I do believe the artistry in hand made is a fading skill. Magnificent artisans at work, very inspiring.
