This does sound a bit condescending and down right ridiculous, the old cliche, "We've come a long way baby!" And that was from a cigarette commercial to boot!! But we have and still need lots more work ahead of us. However, the author was probably being very sincere and creating thought-provoking fodder for the readership. One thing I have learned through out my life, studies and work, visiting the past is like visiting another planet and thank goodness....it should stay there. There are still many countries that need a feminine kick in the arse, but that will take time, lots of time and proactive women and supportive men.

ReplyDeleteLove seeing these old articles, they are so sad/funny. Some of the funniest (and most pathetic) articles are from 40s/50s women's mags....oh 'so delightful' ideas on how the little woman should deport and dress herself to make hubby happy.
I wonder how women of today will be perceived in 100 years?

So what is the actual date on this article? And to think we 'almost/sorta' had a woman president and we do have a woman speaker of the house! Go figure! wonder what's next! Although, I have to admit, I'm very happy being a lowly wife, mother, grand mother and artist! Doesn't take much to make me happy and I don't need to compete with a man..ok, only with my better half!
