An Award and a Fab Giveaway!
All awards are special and great fun to give. The Renee Award is relatively new and was created by Bella and Ces in honour of their friend Renee, an incredibly lady who in the face f a frightening life battle is tackling each new day with great spirit and courage. Well, it's been a while ...
since we sat and had a good chat about life and love and the eternal questions. So pull up a hairdryer and let's get on with it!

I have been making a few goodies ... last week I was kind of out of it. So I'm trying to make up for it this week. This piece is almost finished I think.

This is the mini-theatre without it's character ...
who, naturally, is...
This piece is about 10" high, 4.5" wide and 3" deep. It's hard to tell (because I'm the world's worst photographer), but there is a lot of detail in this. Many rhinestones and chrystals and ribbons and crepe paper ruffles. I especially like the "frame" - I gold leafed it - which took forever ... and then I ended up gluing things like beads and Dresden scrap all over it any way! I think it's properly royal enough to house la 'toinette! I would call this finished, but I'm starting to think that it needs legs of some sort - so I'm going to look at it for another day before deciding.
Well, time to move on from Versailles to more real things.
Oh! Not yet! Speaking of royal! Gabriela Delworth is offering a free template to make one of her exquisite paper crown/tiaras! She is also going to offer a tutorial on how to create them. If you aren't familiar with her work, you should check it out - and if you are, then you know how beautiful her crowns are! Click on the link below to go to her site and get the link to download the template! I'm going to make a Mother's Day crown for my mother, I think. I get a kick out of the idea of her wearing it.
Remember that wonderful kitschy lamp that the father won in A Christmas Story? Frankly, I always thought it was just in the imagination of the screenwriter and director, knowing that there was never anything that tacky in people's homes.
Well, I've been wrong before...and I guess I'll be wrong again...
Last night we caught the musical/comedy act "Four Bitchin' Babes" at the Shubert Theatre. They were just terrific! They had lovely voices and had really tight musical arrangements and harmonies, etc...but - ohmigosh - they were soooooo funny! With song titles like "The Boob Fairy Never Visited Me," "Viagra in the Water," "Hotflash," and "Don't Mess With Me - I'm Somebody's Mother" you get the idea! Click on the logo below and go to their site to watch a short video clip of part of their act. If they are touring near you, it's definitely worth getting tickets!
Oh, and this is an ATC I made for the monthly lottery on Marie Antoinette Mail Art.
I have fun making ATC's. I don't expect to win the lottery. As already this month, I've won prizes from Joy at Cupid's Charm and Gabriela Delworth, both from their Marie Antoinette celebrations, I have won more than my fair share of goodies! Earlier this year I won a lovely piece of jewelry from Ivy Creations on the PFATT Artists giveaway. Those are the first things I've ever won ... and to have it happen all in a row!, well, I should probably be playing the lottery! Be sure to check out their blogs - whenever I go there, I feel like a little boy with his nose pressed against the window keeping the goodies out of reach!
I had a little trade with Miss Berlin from Shabby Thoughts. If you don't follow her blog, click on her banner below and check it out. It's a fun place. We traded some stuff for some stuff. Well, today I received an "after" gift box. I was so surprised, because I thought our trade was finished! But I'm certainly not one to refuse a lovely gift!
Inside were all these charming little pieces of this and that and lovely little wrapped gifts.
What a fab array of sparkles and beads and laces and trims, oh my! Those sparkly bits are all going to find homes in my theatres and tussie mussies - I can't wait to use them. And the lace and tatting bits are going to come in very handy when I start Collage Camp at K.C.Willis' in a few weeks.
We've been given a supply list for collage camp - and I've been having fun picking up some of the items we'll need. I found some terrific ticking that will get coffee-stained and ripped and added into the collages. I really like that blue and white piece - it looks just like an old mattress! We're also supposed to have some lace and trims, things of which I really don't have much. For some reason I just never buy lace and tatwork - probably because I don't use it in my work. NOt that I have anything against it - I just never got started. So, Miss Berlin's gifts are going to come in very handy!
Okay. I should get back to work. This did get kind of rambly ... but it has been so long since I've written, I felt I should put some time into it. And for all of you who have stuck with me during this past week of minimal posting, remember...I love you thiiiiiiiiiiis much!

Flea Market Friday
It's that time of the week again! Got some goodies to offer ...
Here is my Parisienne Latte tussie mussie. I particularly like this one because it's both elegant and rustic at the same time. It is 8" long, not including the bottom streamers or the hanger.
It is constructed on a sturdy papier mache form, and covered with a lovely piece of Anna Griffin french style paper. It has been embellished with lots of trims, cords, vintage crepe paper ruffles, and silk bows and rosettes.
The various shades of coffee coloured silk ribbons on the bottom hang from a mini-bead covered wooden ball, with beads and bells.
The price of this piece is $20, including shipping to the continental United States. It is available here.
This charming vintage miniature bisque doll is only 1 7/8" tall! She's a little cowgirl, wearing her rodeo hat and lucky blue jeans. The dark space by her hand (which I hadn't ever noticed until I saw the scan!) is not a chip - it's a flaw in the original paint. Though she is in good shape (no chips, cracks, etc.) she does show age-appropriate wear.
The cost of the cowgirl is $10, including shipping within the continental United States. She is available here.
And another miniature! A really wonderful miniature clown vase. He's happy and smiling and glad to be displaying whatever sprigs you put in him! He's painted bique - and only 1 3/8" high!...a perfect size for those delightful tiny wildflowers that are too small for a "real" vase!

This is really the day for miniatures, isn't it?! This delightful china (porcelain? frankly, I can't tell the difference) footed teacup is only 2 3/4" tall. It has a lovely scene with gold ornamentation in the decorative painting.

This pair of small brocade shades are brand new. They are a sort of green/bronze/cream fabric with neutral trim on the top and bottom. They are 5" high x 5" across at the bottom and 3" across at the top. They have light bulb clips on the inside. I got these for a candle shade holder and they were too big.

Joyous Holiday Wishes to You and Yours!
For me, on this, holiday, this is the perfect video...it's all about Easter couture - and it's translated into French!
I know that Marie Claire is now not all that sophisticated a magazine. It's mostly adverts for breast enhancers and cheap-make-up-of the-month-clubs. I mean - really - a one year subscription for eight dollars?! But at one time, it was almost as chic as Vogue or W. I thought I would share with you some of the wonderful millinery delights of decades past that Marie Claire decreed were the cat's meow - or pajamas - or litter box ... or ...
and my favorite...
Now, tell the truth - don't you want this adorable pom-pommed hat and transparent purse ensemble?! You know you'd be the belle of ... well ... something or other!
Perhaps with so many millinery choices, it might be wisest to just skip the hat and stick with the ever-classic veil. How can you go wrong? And - obviously - you don't even have to worry about choosing the correct blouse! The veil doubles as your top!
A most happy Easter to you ... I hope you're spending it with family or good friends - or alone in your studio making lovely things to share with us! Whatever your choice is, my best wishes for it to be exactly as you want it to be!

Beverly's Pink Saturday
I just wasn't up to writing a long Pink Saturday post and attempting to be fun. My heart - or at least my ear and sense of balance - wasn't into it.
However, thanks to my friend Anne at el Milagro Studio, somebody at Macy's has actually created the post for me! Wasn't that good of them?
