What a nice weekend. No guests - no errands or chores that needed immediate attention. Just a relaxing weekend to hang out around the neighborhood, chatting with neighbors and watching the world go by.
Of course, even though
I didn't have work to do - the postman certainly did! Namely, to deliver my prize from the
PFAAT giveaway! I won this very special pendant by
Iva Wilcox, created with an optical lens, vintage images (on both sides) and a lovely piece of crumpled seam binding. She knew that I planned to give the piece to my mom for her birthday, so she also included a really lovely ATC for me to keep! Wasn't that generous of her! A gift included with a prize! And the necklace was beautifully packaged with shredded shiny paper and in a cellophane goodie bag - all ready for gift-giving! Now, that's a piece of mail worth getting off the street corner for!

Also went shopping on Saturday for a while. There was some kind of big sale going on downtown in all the shops, so off we went. We didn't go into all the stores...if they didn't want Dusty, they didn't want me! (Can you imagine anybody not wanting dignified, refined Dusty in their shop? And, yes, that's facetious, because I completely understand it.) We bought a few goodies on sale here and there - nothing to write home (or on a blog) about. But I did find these gorgeous trims which I thought would be perfect for a min-theatre piece or ...?!
Naturally, they were NOT on sale and were absurdly expensive, so we will probably be eating popcorn this week. But that's okay. We'll smile our way through poverty, knowing that things of beauty are worth starving for.
One thing that got the old blood pumping was the excitement of the treasure hunt over at
Moonlight Hollow! And I won third place! I was actually the first to post 'finished' - but I made a mistake. sigh. Haste makes - well - you know. I thought that JFK and Jackie's favorite recipe was New England Clam Chowder...turns out, it was the Daquiri! I certainly can't argue with them...even if it
did cost me first place! It was a really fun treasure hunt - took me almost an hour to complete it - and I was
not wasting time! My fingers were fairly flying over the keyboard!
Then, I received this wonderful and thoughtful award from Lola at
Lola Enchanted's Flea Market. Be sure to check out the goodies she offers! I think this is a special award, as it's for people who we have come to regard as friends, although perhaps we've never met other than online. Nice idea, I think!

Not even close! I've been deep in the art mines, trying to dig some gold out of them thar hills! I finished up this collage today. I've titled it "They All Had Theda Bara Eyes." It's a collage on canvas and is 14"x18". There are lots of vintage images, beads, stamping, transparencies, beaded fringe, vintage repurposed jewelry, and Dresden scrap and glitter.
I love this rusty oval-shaped piece of something-or-other. I'm pretty sure it's tin - what it was meant to be used for, I have no idea - perhaps the hardware for a drawer pull?
I also like the way all the bugle beads radiate from the figures, giving a ribbon-like swirl throughout parts of the collage.
And this is the center focus piece - transparencies, vintage book text and images, handmade art paper, faery string, bugle beads and jet beaded fringe

Being a huge fan of Jane Austen, especially Sense & Sensibility and Emma, I was delighted to receive the Excessively Diverting Blog Award from Ingrid at Fashion is My Muse.
Two years ago, we were privileged to see the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Midsummer Night's Dream. It was an amazing production on many levels. First, of course, was the acting: simply the best of any Shakespeare play I've ever seen. They had the very skillful - and unique - ability to make every single word sound like contemporary English. There was never a moment when the actors were not believable and accessible and right in the moment. Then there was the vision of the director and designers. This was the dirtiest Midsummer I've ever encountered! These faeries were not pretty and fanciful - they were dark and mysterious and downright creepy at times. Instead of the usual butterflies and birds around, the walls had enormous flies and moths and creepy insects of an unknown sort walking them. This was a very dangerous group of woodland sprites - and it was fascinating!
Yesterday I was tossing my mail in a pile and realized that I had gorgeous colour-coordinated mail! My Somerset Publications "Marie" magazine arrived - and it was the perfect background for my blue and green Color Groupies March swap from Lenna! Lenna always has the best envelopes! And her cards are gorgeous. If you aren't familiar with her work, be sure to visit her at Creative Lenna. And, if you're a class/workshop person, she gives wonderful workshops both online and in her studio. Naturally, I realize this is a perfectly nonsensical issue to blog and hardly worth reading about ... but I just thought the colours were all so nice together! Somebody! Grab a crow bar and pry that camera out of my hands!
A somewhat better view of Lenna's ATC for me ... the beads kind of distort the image on the scanner. But it's pretty clear - isn't it pretty?! I just can't make fabric stuff that small!
Well, Dusty decided that I should be up, awake and out for a walk at six o'clock this morning, so I do think that I deserve a bit of a nap before I start doing whatever it is that I'm going to do today. And whatever it is, it must not be shopping on either eBay or Etsy; yesterday I was simply shameless about ordering things. I'm beginning to think I need a twelve step program.
